Malam Ngobrol is a monthly informal social gathering usually held in private homes and occasionally at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre. Groups of Indonesian guests often attend, providing members with the opportunity of conversing in Indonesian with native speakers and providing Indonesian visitors with some friendly contacts while they are in unfamiliar surroundings.
Many lasting friendships initiated at Malam Ngobrol continue to develop though regular visits between Australia and Indonesia. While language practice is the focus of these evenings, members who do not speak Indonesian are still most welcome, because Indonesian guests are often pleased to have the opportunity to practise their English. Cultural exchange is also an essential part of our organisation.
