1–14 July 2018 (course runs 2–13 July)
6–19 January 2019 (course runs 7–18 January)
The Adult Immersion Courses, held in Bandung over two weeks in July and January, consist of no more than ten participants. They are designed to extend Indonesian language competence and understanding of Indonesia.
The immersion courses are taught through Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). Each weekday, participants attend a theme-based lesson followed by a related activity outside the classroom to put into practice what they have learned. The courses draw on communicative and task-based methodologies, involving excursions, reporting and interaction with Indonesian people. There is also some scope to adapt the syllabus to suit individual or professional interests. Scope also exists to provide a teachers' stream geared to strengthening the language of existing non-native teachers of Indonesian.
For the duration of the course, each participant lives with a local family, which is an integral part of the language learning process. Weekends consist of free time and activities with the host family. For those with a strong preference to stay in a hotel or guesthouse, $100 can be deducted from the total fee below. We strongly recommend against staying with friends or family as it will inevitably detract from the immersive experience.
Participants arrange their own travel to and from Bandung and must remain in Bandung for the duration of the course. The cost of the course is $1650, with $650 payable as a deposit. Applications close on 2 April (July course) and 2 October (January course). IndoAustay may accept late applications that are otherwise complete. You can download an application form in PDF format.
You can read a review of the course by one of the 2016 participants.
